Christine Elizabeth Marshall-Thomas departed this life on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Henrico Doctors Hospital – Forest Campus in Richmond, Virginia locked in hand with her loving daughter, Adrienne Patrice Whitaker of Richmond, Virginia. Her final journey began with a stroke on September 9th. Along the path was a beautiful prayer call on September 13th with family, friends and associates participating from across the U.S. and in Canada with Christine verbally accepting the prayers and words of encouragement.
Christine attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and the Interior Design Institute. She worked at SunTrust Bank as an Operations Specialist and at Hancock Fabric as a Sales Associate. She was also a talented designer who enjoyed sewing and decorating. Christine was a certified Professional Picture Framer and created CEMART Designs. Her favorite hobby was “working in the yard”.
Married to James Thomas, Jr., Christine has lived in Newark, NJ; San Antonio, Texas; Victorville California; Norfolk, Virginia; Hampton,Virginia and Shelby County,Tennessee before joining her daughter in Richmond, Virginia over 16 years ago.
Christine was fondly known by friends as “Mom”, “Miss Chris” and “Auntie Chris” all of which she accepted with delight. Â To remember her loving, caring, humorous nature, she leaves behind her daughter, Adrienne Patrice Whitaker (formerly Marshall-Thomas); her mother, Mary Saunders Marshall; an aunt, Louise Saunders Rahmings; cousins, Ramona “Mona” Rahmings Exum, Samuel “Sam” Rahmings (Claudette), Laura Rahmings Johnson (Henry), Robert Riles, Jr.; Todd Riles; Tammy Riles Montgomery (Kenny); Kevin Riles (Adrienne), Jerry Rahmings, Kenya Rahmings Jones (Jonathan), Tawanda Rahmings, Sean Rahmings and many, many other family members in the Bahamas, Florida, Greater Washington DC area and New Jersey. She also leaves behind a host of friends, including her dearest friend Agatha Porterfield and her daughters (Sylvia and Ronetta) and their family.
Christine will be memorialized with a service in Miami, Florida, where she was born and christened. The service will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2014Â at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of Incarnation located at 1835 NW 54th St, Miami, Fl.Â Â AÂ Celebration of Life brunch will take place in Richmond, Virginia at a later date. A scholarship endowment has been established in her honor at Virginia State University (P.O. Box 9027, VSU, Virginia, 23806).
Ms. Marshall-Thomas has been a part of the UFSC family since 2009. She checked our voicemail messages, returned calls for us and sent the leadership emails concerning voicemail messages. She really cared about UFSC and supporting Adrienne.
